Launch of new technology aims to put an end to participation TV scandals

ionoco announced today the launch of a proprietary technology designed to put an end to phone-in and participation TV scandals. The company, ionoco, is a major new force in the broadcast, lottery and gaming markets, offering television graphics and control systems for game shows and TV programmes.  The new technology, matrix,  is a graphical selection system designed for television competitions.

The technology is completely transparent, making broadcast competitions fair and auditable, whilst delivering compelling and distinctive graphics. Participants are entered into the matrix sequentially, then given a unique coordinate in the matrix that they can verify online to confirm their entry and to track their progress throughout the competition. The winning coordinates are selected using random, unpredictable data such as stock market prices, lottery results or the temperature. This new system also includes a built-in tamper-proof audit log, allowing broadcasters to have a record of every stage of the competition. The process is secure, completely auditable and all coordinates are verifiable by anyone at any point in the process.

Participation TV and editorial-based competitions have posed some of the biggest issues of recent years in the broadcasting industry and matrix technology is set to restore viewer trust, broadcaster integrity and phone-in revenues. matrix has become particularly relevant in light of the recent Ofcom consultation on participation TV and will make it easier for broadcasters to address Ofcom’s proposed new guidelines.

Simon Ingram, CEO of ionoco says: “The launch of this new technology comes at a time when everyone in the industry is looking for solutions to remedy the crisis in viewer confidence. matrix aims to make phone-in and participation TV scandals a thing of the past.”

Built on ionologic™,a proprietary software platform and running on bespoke ionocore™computers, ionoco systems are uniquely configurable, easy to operate and already proven in over 1000 productions, 12,000 TV episodes and more than 60 countries.

The matrix technology is the first of two major launches for the company, the second to be announced in summer 2008. ionoco also provides solutions for live events, films and digital signage and is based in Winchester in the UK, with offices and associates in France, America and Asia.

ionoco has been formed through the merger of three existing companies: G-Graphics, Randomaker and TV2GO. It is led by Chris Goss, Simon Ingram and David Walton and builds on 25 years of G-Graphics success in the broadcast industry.
